Frequently Asked Questions
When is the deadline to submit my work?
The application process will close on March 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time.
How many submissions can I make?
You can submit multiple works but will have to submit each work independently (more than one entry is allowed, but each entry will be considered an independent submission.)
Can I submit work I had previously submitted to a previous 4th Wall Open Call?
Yes
Can I present a video work with more than one channel?
Yes, but arrange all the channels in one video file for the reviewing process.
Can I submit work that is online based?
Yes. If the work is to be experienced online, please provide us with a video capture of the content for the review process.
Can I submit a VR project?
No.
Can I submit video documentation of a 3D installation that includes video elements?
No
Is collaboration or collective work accepted?
Yes. Please designate the person of contact in the application AND include the names of all co-creators in the submission form.
If the work is selected, we will consider it as a submission from a single artist for screening fee purposes.
Is there a Submission Fee?
The entry fee for the open call is $10, but we can offer fee waivers upon request, no questions asked.
Applications can only be completed after you ask for a waiver or pay the fee.
What does the submission fee include?
Entry to the selection process.
How is the work selected?
Our selection process is designed to be inclusive and thorough. We welcome submissions from artists of all ages (18+) and backgrounds. Prospect Art’s co-founders and directors, the 4th-Wall Program Manager and Prospect Art’s Curatorial Fellow, work collaboratively to ensure a diverse range of perspectives and artistic expressions are considered. Each submission is carefully reviewed by 4th wall’s team as we are committed to fostering an inclusive platform that celebrates video art from across the globe.
Why is there a requirement for works to have been created in the past two years?
Our decision to limit submissions to works created in the past two years is driven by our commitment to showcase contemporary perspectives. By focusing on recently created content, we aim to curate a collection that reflects current times. This approach ensures that our platform remains dynamic and relevant, promoting the exploration of fresh ideas. We believe this provides a platform for artists and creators to showcase their most recent works and fosters a space that encourages ongoing creativity.
Who is eligible?
Visual artists at any career stage who work in the medium of video from anywhere in the world (18+)
Why Paid Submissions?
We are an artist-run organization, artists ourselves. The revenue generated from submission fees directly supports our mission to provide a platform for artists to showcase their work. It helps sustain our community and enables us to offer more opportunities and resources for artists.
Fair Evaluation: Paid submissions help us dedicate the necessary time and resources to evaluate each piece thoroughly.
